I played a lot of sports when I was younger – basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf. Intriguingly enough, almost all of these sports required that my parents (thank you both) would need to drive me around the Midwest to what felt (sometimes) the end of eternity. Around the end of most tournaments, as a young sports participant, you could feel the tension building. The parents were tired, had just sacrificed their whole weekend, and only wanted a short break with their favorite alcoholic beverage before facing the full week ahead.
Without fail, my Mom’s favorite beverage of choice is a Manhattan. As a child, I was never permitted to drink any of the beverage, but I did really enjoy one aspect of it – the brandy cherries! Every time I saw her drink delivered, I’d sneak away from the kiddie table to beg for the soaked, rich, and delectable cherry (thanks for letting me eat it, too). It might have been the small essence of booze or the feeling that I was getting a forbidden treat, but those cherries sure do hold a vivid space in my tasting memory.
Santos Perez Ramirez’s coffee immediately reminded me of the intense dark purple hue of my favorite Manhattan cherries. It had a lovely rich cherry flavor, but with the extra intensity of a long sugary, and boozy soak. Like some Botz coffees in the past, this coffee has been labeled a sugar bomb because of its luxuriously chocolatey and rich nature. At times, I almost felt like my cupping spoon was dipping into a mini bowl of cake batter with all my favorite ingredients. If you’re looking for a coffee in the morning that won’t miss, with the added benefit of giving you some lavish chocolatey confidence, I highly recommend snagging Santos Perez Ramirez’s coffee.
