It’s rainy, grey, and gloomy. You’re driving or staring out the window of your abode. But then in seconds, the rain stops, and the sun blasts through an opening in the clouds. Next, through a combination of science, human creativity, and chance, a rainbow appears. In the presence of something so striking, vast, and complex, you’d think you’d feel a bit overwhelmed. But in this moment, you feel encouraged that something transcends your own understanding of the world. You need not question it. You choose to experience it and enter it fully. Certain coffees can do the same.

At BOTZ, we feel very lucky and honored when we have a chance to roast a “rainbow” coffee. Not only do we get to experience all the flavors of ROYGBIV through outstanding fruity expressions, but we also feel moments of gratitude, reflection, and inspiration (with ever so slight tinges of roast terror hehe…). These coffees seamlessly find their way to BOTZ at just the right time to offer a gentle “you-got-this” reminder that anything is achievable for our small business with a bit of persistence and kindness (big shout to Plyexpress for making these coffees happen and participating in the BOTZ universe).

The Duncan Lot 2004 from Finca Kotowa represents a piercing fruit blast. It has an electric washed-like and soprano acidity that immediately made me think “turquoise”, if we are speaking in rainbows. If not, think of refreshing Baja Blast. It also cuts with tangy and complex notes of tangerine and strawberry. It’s juicy and crisp with red berries like Frank Cornelissen’s Susucaru Rosato 2022. The finish is landed with candied melons. It’s a BOTZ dream bean – a “rainbow” coffee through and through.

We hope this “rainbow” coffee goes above and beyond for you like it has for us and that you fully enjoy BOTZ’s roast rendition.

(Rainbow in Whiting, IN)

***Please note that coffee orders for this week will be roasted starting next week on 8/19. It will take about a week to roast, package, and ship all orders. Thank you kindly for your patience.***
