You’re at Munster pool. The lifeguard whistles for adult swim. There’s only one thing to do…straight to the concession stand for the ultimate strawberry banana smoothie. Immediately you feel rejuvenated. With such an intensely tropical combo, you go straight to the unrestricted diving board. 3 bounces (the last one being mega), dismount, and a wicked jackknife splash. 10s across the board from the parents. At BOTZ we seek one coffee every year, to provide the same feeling – summer encapsulated.
Back in February, it was chilly, rainy, and gloomy for an early morning cupping at the Crop to Cup office in Chicago. I’d be lying if I said my environment wasn’t affecting my mood rather dramatically (mood, temperament, and cupping decisions – a tale for another time…). We started moving around the table and I dipped my spoon into Tuke Yute’s 74158 lot. The room suddenly filled with radiating sunshine. I no longer felt improperly dressed in my usual shorts. Peach, strawberry, and complex tropical impressions filled the cupping sheet. Just like the universally recognized song of the summer that blasts from every car with the windows down, we knew that this coffee would imprint itself for Botzonians as the coffee of summer ’24.
We prize this coffee above all because of its laser profile and masterful balance of heavy fruit, crisp acidity, and clarity (some have even called it washed :OOO). It leads with clean and peachy qualities but finishes with lingering tropical fruits. Expect a bit of berry tingle and sweetness as the cup cools. We’re at the peak of summer and Tuke Yute’s lot’s time is now.
