“I don’t want any[bean] else, from the hours of 12 to 12.” – Sombr
We can’t deny it. Sombr speaks it, thus it is the truth. At the BOTZ HQ, we legitimately can’t drink any other coffee other than Hugo Gonzales the entire day. It’s a bit problematic considering our reserves (we send Botzonians all the best roasts, so we usually end up with 60ish grams to ourselves after all is said, sorted, and packaged), but we will cherish every cup until it is gone.
We’ve written about it before, and we’re about to do it again. Certain beans cause you to pause and reflect. You sip, look down at the cupping bowl, and in an instant, you see all the little moments in the span of your business that led up to you having the chance to roast and represent a green coffee’s identity with a twinkle of your own roasting flair and experience. We can’t help but feel an immense sense of gratitude for everyone that helped Hugo’s beans make it to Northwest Indiana. So, we remember the precious moments of our cuppings, we meditate while thinking of moisture, gas settings, and color hues, and then the gratitude hones our resolve. Humbly and robotically, it’s time to find the millimeters, as my roasting mentor would say, and light it up.
Hugo Gonzales’s gesha is the Grand Champion of Osito’s Copa de Oro competition (which has undoubtedly showcased some of our favorite coffees EVER). While it’s classically washed, its density and intensity (or at least for the BOTZ vision we foresaw) are what make it stellar. The acidity is rich, pink, and tropical. The sweetness leans rich, buttery, sugary, and alive like your favorite French pastries that lean toward fresh citrus. The cup has a defined florality that’s omnipresent across its different characteristics. In its show-stopper moments, it reminds us of Earl Grey tea and milkweed (think lilacs, vanilla, and honey).
Thank you from the bottom of our robotic hearts for valuing coffees, such as Hugo’s gesha. It means the world to have the chance to roast them, and we’re so ecstatic that it finds its way to the counters of passionate Botzonians.
***Please note - fulfillment will take place from [3/7-3/8]. Beans will ship on [3/11] (with our hope of shipping earlier if we can)!***
