Razor-clean acidity, pronounced sweetness, and lingering familiarity – all traits from the finest coffees from Guatemala.  Over the years, I’ve gained a particular affinity for coffees from Guatemala because of their refined and sparkling clarity.  A sip of a perfectly brewed v60 with a Guatemalan coffee is just. bliss.

This coffee and its flavors transported me all the way back to apple orchard field trips from my Frank H. Hammond (elementary school) days (Go hawks!).  Trips at the orchard started with a mini excursion into the fragrant rows of trees followed by a momentary break for lunch in shaded spots with small picnic benches.  This coffee is sweet, chewy, and buttery like a peanut butter and plum spread (Serbian stuff) sandwich – reminiscent of my field trip brown bag lunch of choice.

Near the end of our adventure, we always got a fresh cup of apple juice, which was so ridiculously crisp and pure, that it still tickles on my tongue when I look back now.  When you get the kick from this coffee’s Pink Lady apple acidity, hope you experience that same sparkle.  My favorite part of the trip, however, always came at the very end—my Mom is notorious for providing sweet treats and trinkets to round-eyed, sugar-desperate children to encourage good behavior (and generally foster smiles). Like my classmates silently passing my Mom’s Walkers Shortbread cookies on the bus, the buttery aftertaste of this coffee is subtle and harmonious.

Similar to a cherished memory, this coffee is lasting – triggering your senses well beyond the morning.  The mental throwback may be “elementary”, but the flavor profile is anything but.
