As Juan Pablo Guzman’s coffee entered the Botz Hall of Fame upon its last bags being sent out in the mail (if you have one, cherish it), I felt an urgency to find another coffee that could carry its sugary banner. Mr. Guzman’s coffee was popular among Botzonians, who told me they appreciated its flavor clarity and resonating sweetness. Like a box of donut holes, I watched the Juan Pablo Guzman beans quickly disappear from Botz’s inventory, and immediately started to miss ‘em – they were predictable, consistent, and easy to manage in the roaster. I wondered if I’d ever find such a trusty Botz companion…
Well Botzonians, I’m pleased to announce the release of Maria Rivera’s coffee, a washed coffee of the pacamara variety from Chalatenango, El Salvador.
“Paca-what?” you ask. According to World Coffee Research, the pacamara variety is characterized by big beans, and the cup quality at high altitudes can be exceptional when processed well. Check and check. When taking my first sips, a long-lost oldie started to play in my head – “Sugar, sugar…ah honey, honey!”. By the end of the cup, I was ready to run several laps around Candyland - I’d found a new Sugar Plum Fairy Queen for the Botz menu.
Drinking Maria’s coffee is like lavishly dressing a piece of toast with your favorite Smucker’s grape jam, but instead of adding peanut butter to finish your sandwich masterpiece, you opt for Nutella instead. Some would say blasphemy, but Botz says PRO MOVE.
Ripping open a bag of Maria Rivera will give you the same sense of comfort you get when you open your favorite box of powdery cereal from childhood, or from the scent of your mom’s brownies baking in the oven. Take a dive in and like The Archies, you too will start singing, “Like the summer sunshine pour your sweetness over me!”
Pssst…this is a smaller lot with limited availability, so grab a bag before it's gonezo!
